The 1961 Fleer Basketball "A New Series... A Sure Hit" promotional piece stands as a pivotal moment in the history of basketball trading cards. Produced by Fleer Corporation, this promotional piece or salesman sample introduced an exciting new series of basketball cards that would go on to become a cherished collectible among sports enthusiasts. Critically, the promo sheet contains the VERY first cards of Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor in both portrait and In Action cards.
There are a few interesting facts about the promo sheet:
A full sheet is blank-backed and measures 13-1/2 x 9-3/4. Only one complete sheet has been identified. It sold at Huggins & Scott in July 2012 for $16,450. A photo of the full sheet is immediately below. Huggins & Scott's description notes that there is "a barely perceptible surface wrinkle" on the Twyman In Action card, "some superficial surface imperfections on the Cousy "regular" card and minor corner wear".
I know of three others but they are all trimmed for a total pop of 4 (one complete and 3 trimmed). Scroll to bottom for full details on these four.

This is the final version of the Elgin Baylor IA card. Only 2 copies have achieved a PSA 10 grade and only 20 in a PSA 9 grade making it a very tough card to obtain in a high grade. Given that Elgin is wearing a Lakers jersey with stars flanking his number 22, we know that the photo was taken during a different game than the promo photo.

The promo version of this card omits the Lakers "Giraffe" logo, contains a different photograph and the new phrase "Pops A Basket". Depicted in the promo image is also Elgin's Lakers teammate "Hot" Rod Hundley (#33) and they are playing against the NY Knicks.

This is the final version of the Jack Twyman IA card. Only 1 copy has achieved a PSA 10 grade and only 26 in a PSA 9 grade making it a very tough card to obtain in a high grade. The light versus dark uniforms in the two cards shows that the photos were taken on different days. Here, Twyman is guarded by Boston Celtics Frank Ramsey #23.

The promo version of the Twyman IA card contains a different photograph but includes the same "Drives To The Basket" phrase. Here, Twyman is guarded by Boston Celtics Tom Heinsohn #18. Interestingly, Twyman is wearing his official #31 jersey number in the promo card but #37 in the officially released card (left).

The only complete sheet sold at Huggins & Scott in May 2012. Huggins & Scott's description notes that there is "a barely perceptible surface wrinkle" on the Twyman In Action card, "some superficial surface imperfections on the Cousy "regular" card and minor corner wear". I also observe some scuffs on the Cousy portrait card and, at least, one scuff on the Chamberlain portrait card.

All 4 bottom cards are entirely missing as well as the text "All The Leading Stars" and "Order Now From Fleer" with logo. Cards generally appear to be in better condition than the May 2016 and Oct 2013 sheets. (Note: Photo taken through glass).

This May 2016 Huggins & Scott Promo Sheet is missing its lower portions and has various staining and scoffs (possibly paper loss) on all of the cards except for the Wilt Chamberlain IA. Per Huggins & Scott, this example displays varying degrees of trimming along each edge with the advertising "Order Now from Fleer" being clipped off. The piece also has mild glue residue.

All 4 top cards In the Mile High 1961 Fleer Promo sheet are missing their top portion and we observe substantial staining and wear throughout. The Wilt Chamberlain and Cob Cousy cards appear scuffed. Also, per Mile High's description, "the sheet has been cut on all four sides and displays a foreign substance on the surface, while the reverse shows wrinkles and spots or paper loss."
