The 1961 Fleer Basketball "A New Series... A Sure Hit" promotional piece stands as a pivotal moment in the history of basketball trading cards. Produced by Fleer Corporation, this promotional piece introduced an exciting new series of basketball cards that would go on to become a cherished collectible among sports enthusiasts.
As set forth below, the promotional piece contains a misspelling of the most important card in the whole set ... #8 Wilt Chamberlain. The Elgin Baylor and Jack Twyman In Action cards contain photos that were not used in the final, released versions of these cards. Further, the Baylor In Action was officially released with the phrase "Sinks A Basket" and the Twyman In Action was officially released with the phrase “Drives to the Basket”. Finally, all 8 of the color combinations were changed making these promos unique.
